Overview

One platform for store operations, memberships, and ordering.

Tech Platform gives bookshops a system for managing and selling inventory. It also supports ordering through separate iOS apps that use the platform as their backend.

Indie needed ongoing maintenance for the existing Active Admin application. Since December 2021, If/Then has provided technical leadership and built new features as the business expanded.

The work includes partner-store installs, reporting dashboards, a membership wizard, and deeper integration with Ingram. The platform also connects with Stripe and Shopify as part of the wider store workflow.

What was accomplished

Keep a growing store platform useful and maintainable.

The work combines ongoing maintenance with new feature development for Indie and its partner stores.

Provided technical leadership

Took over routine maintenance for the Active Admin application and continued to guide technical decisions as new needs emerged.

Built reporting dashboards

Created the reporting mechanism and dashboards needed to give the business a clearer view of store activity and operations.

Added the membership wizard

Built a membership purchase flow that lets each bookshop customize the memberships it offers and present the available customer perks.

Created partner-store installs

Cloned the platform installation for partner stores and created new Heroku apps to support those separate installs.

Deepened the Ingram integration

Expanded the connection with Ingram to support the platform's inventory and ordering workflows.
